Learn more about an ear tuck and when it could be performed
Otoplasty, also known as an ear tuck or ear pinning, is an ear shaping surgery that can help reduce the size and shape of large, overly protuberant ears. Prominent ears are a common source of teasing and low self confidence in children. Surgical correction results in significant improvement in self esteem. The specific maneuvers performed in otoplasty depend on each individual’s unique anatomy but generally, this is a relatively quick, safe, reliable procedure with high satisfaction rates.

What ages can otoplasty be performed?
The ear reaches 85% of adult size by age 3 and is nearly completely mature by age 6. Generally, otoplasty can be performed after the age of 6 years old.
What can I expect in terms of scarring?
Typically, otoplasty scars are well concealed and not noticeable after healing occurs. There is generally a scar on the back of the ear, hidden within the crease between the ear and the head. Sometimes, an additional small incision is made on the front of the ear creating what is usually a small scar that is difficult to see.
