Also called telangiectasia, spider veins or broken capillaries, broken blood vessels appear as fine purple or red lines on the surface of the skin, giving it a reddish discoloration. Broken blood vessels are most often found on the chin, nose and cheeks, the areas of the skin that are subject to the most sun exposure. They may also appear as a symptom of an inflammatory vascular skin condition called rosacea.
