PLATELET RICH PLASMA/PLATELET RICH FIBRINOGEN MATRIX (PRP/PRFM) HAIR RESTORATION TREATMENTS
WHAT IS PRP/PRFM THERAPY
PRP/PRFM therapy is used in hair restoration treatments to offer natural-looking results for both men and women. It is a state-of-the-art, non-surgical procedure that reverses hair loss and hair thinning by using platelets found naturally in your own blood. Platelets are essential to wound healing, and as such carry both anti-inflammatory mediators and growth factors to stimulate hair growth. PRFM uses the bodies natural clotting proteins to keep the PRP in place to optimize the effects. These treatments are effective for both male and female pattern hair loss as well as several of the autoimmune hair loss disorders like lichen planopilaris and frontal fibrosing alopecia.
How does the procedure work?
Our medical team will draw a sample of your blood. Using a centrifuge, we separate PRP from the rest of your blood. Incorporating the Selphyl® process offers a richer sample of PRP that features twice the platelets without contamination from unwanted blood cells. This closed system optimizes the treatment to ensure you’ll get the best hair restoration results possible. The clotting system is then reactivated to form PRFM, which aides in enriching the platelets where we want them for longer.
With a thin needle, your own PRP/PRFM is injected into the scalp. The growth factors in your blood cells then do their job to naturally stimulate hair growth. Most patients experience minimal discomfort. For patients who experience discomfort during the injections, we offer topical and local anesthesia prior to the procedure.
DOES PRP/PRFM THERAPY REQUIRE MULTIPLE TREATMENTS?
While there is effect after each treatment, most patients will require multiple treatments to maximize results. After your first procedure, we will typically administer two additional treatments at four to six-week intervals. You will be asked to return three months later to assess your response to PRP therapy. If you show improvement, follow up treatments will typically be administered twice yearly.
